4th of July

Here in Logan our 4th of July really began on the 3rd.  For some reason, Logan always does its fireworks the night of the 3rd.  So the holiday begins early and lasts throughout the next couple of days past the 4th because they also have something called the Cruise-In.  On the 3rd we had another nice afternoon watching Scotty work on his bike while Chicky drew on the driveway with her new chalk.  Our neighbors had us over for a hot dog and some root beer and then we rode our bikes a couple blocks up the street to the Middle School where we laid out a huge blanket and watched the fireworks from afar.  It was a perfect evening!

The 4th began fairly early with the Scouts putting on a breakfast for the whole Stake.  We met up with some friends, Tedi and Derrick Pate, and ate pancakes, eggs and ham with juice while listening to Patriotic Music.

Then we jumped in the car and drove to Kaysville to watch the parade.  We were too late to see the Layton one where Scotts' parents live.  The Kaysville Parade turned out to be great!  Chicky loved getting the candy, but then when she began eating it she decided she didn't like it.  She liked the music too and started dancing every time a band or speaker system drove past.  I loved the Slug Bugs and old cars!

It would be an understatement to say it was hot.  It was extremely hot!!!!!!!!!!!!  I felt like I was melting.  After the parade we went to the Layton City Park where they put on their annual 4th of July Fair/Carnival.  We ate barbeque, cherries and shaved ice.  We also sampled some lumpia and papoosa.  All delicious, but nothing the really hit the spot except those amazing cherries!!!  They were so delicious.

After melting at the park for an hour or so we hit up the grocery store where we all just wanted to roam the isles in the air conditioner until our temperatures decreased.  We picked up a few things for dinner and headed to Craig and Lana's where we pulled out the kiddie pool and bbq.  Good food and a relaxing evening followed.  Chuck and Mellissa and their two boys visited for a while and we all just enjoyed the cool water on our feet and more yummy food.  More fireworks once the sun went down.  Great day.  Great weather.  Great family.  Great food.  Happy 4th of July!
