Ray Freeman Dimond

Welcome Ray to our family!  We are so happy he is finally here.  He was born on Tuesday July 22nd at about 6:30pm via c-section.  He was breech and the doc couldn't get him to flip around.  We weighed all the possibilities and decided a c-section would be best.  He was a little on the big side and I was four days overdue.  The doc said a c-section was probably inevitable even if I did wait to go into labor or he flipped back around.

Ray Freeman Dimond weighed 8 lbs. 8 oz and was 21 inches long.  He sleeps a lot!  Good and bad.  Bad for me at night time, but we try to wake him up every couple hours so he will sleep longer at night.  So far so good.  Emily is so sweet as a big sister.  She loves to hold him and pat his mouth dry with the burp cloth.  She trys to be quiet when he is sleeping.  Truthfully, she has struggled!  She senses a shift in attention and has been more naughty in the last week then in her whole entire life!  I think it will take time for all of us to adjust.

Ray is named for a wonderful family friend from Kauai.  We found out Scott's Grandpa Dimond had a brother named Ray.  Freeman is also a family name on both sides.  My Grandma Bradford's father was named Freeman and I can't remember the family member on the Dimond side.  Someone married a Freeman.  I'll have to straighten it out so we know for sure!  I love finding out all different people with the name who we admire and love.  We have wonderful friends and one of them is named Raeanne.  We also love and admire a neighbor down the street who has the last name of Freeman.  Naming Ray after all of these wonderful people makes me proud to be his momma and gives Ray good examples to follow!

Ray had quite the adventure getting here.  He was a little shell shocked after being pulled out of me during the c-section.  It took a minute to get him to breathe and in the process of getting him to take his initial breath his right lung collapsed.  Air built up around it causing it to deflate.  The docs took him to the NICU and inserted a needle into his chest to suck out all the excess air so his lung could inflate again.  It was successful and they kept him overnight to watch his breathing and monitor him.  What a different experience than Emily.  I held him for a moment after the initial procedure was done and then they took me to my room.  Around 2am Scott and I went down to try and feed him.  He is a good little eater.  No problems nursing at all.  Then we left him and the next day he was released around noon to come be in my room with me.

It took us awhile to name him because we didn't spend much time with him until the next day.  We wanted to see him and get to know him a little before settling on a name.  He is a sweet little guy.  Kind of has two looks so far.  Sleeping soundly in dreamland and then really grumpy old man look when we wake him up.  Pretty funny.  He's tired I guess!

I love the above picture!  My sweet little family.  I am so lucky!  What more could I want out of life?

Sweet baby Ray is here and we are so happy!!
