If it tastes good; spit it out!

I have always tried to exercise throughout my life.  When I was a teen I would get our dog, Koko and race up the Sleeping Giant behind our house as fast as I could almost every day.  When I was a college student I would casually go through spurts of gym time or running in the early morning.  During my last year of college I actually took a jogging class that kept me busy every morning except Fri, Sat, Sun and I really began to enjoy running....a little.  I HATE to run.

Anyway, since living in Utah I about lost it when the weather began to get cold and Scott kindly asked me not to run anymore by myself while it was dark outside.  I kind of threw a fit and screamed and cried and yelled, "but I'm going to get FAT!"  Then I bought myself a $10 a month gym membership and the problem was solved.

After my month long battle with the Swine Flu in October of last year, I have been going almost every morning to the gym for about an hour.  (Pat myself on the back!)  I woke up at 5:40am to go with my Mother-in-Law by 6am.  (I can not believe I did that all through the winter when it was dark and cold and even when we left the gym we still had to turn our headlights on.)

Well, now it is finally summer and I convinced Scott to get a gym membership and we have been lazily waking up around 8:30 or 9am and going to they gym for about an hour each morning and it is wonderful...except for one thing.  I HAVEN'T LOST A SINGLE POUND!  And, in fact, since Scott has been teaching me how to lift weights I have gained 6 pounds.  Not one itty, bitty pound has fallen off my body since October when I began so diligently to go.

So I am frustrated beyond belief.  Even last night, Scott was saying how he doesn't get it either because he knows how hard I've worked and can't believe that my body hasn't changed one bit!  Who knows?  Well I do.  I guess it must be what I eat every day.  I probably eat too much every time I sit down and not enough of the good stuff!  Ahh!

I am still on my quest to be healthy, healthy and to have smaller legs, thighs and butt!  I spent a couple hours last night watching videos about this guy named Scooby (we are following his weight lifting plan) and the way he eats.  He has some interesting advice that I agree with, but he also says

"If it tastes good; spit it out!"

I don't want to agree with that!

See what you think, go here.

  1. Yea.. that sucks. Food that tastes good is the best part of my day. I have a few items I need to clear up:

    - You have a GREAT body. (This is not a pep talk. This is not me reflexively rolling my eyes at your complaining. EVERY time I see you, EVERY time I give you a hug I ALWAYS think to myself "daaaaamn". So there.)

    - Remember mom's "diet" in Farmington? (http://www.amazon.com/Dana-Thornocks-Lean-Free-2000/dp/1566840341) The concept sounds really ... sound ... to me. One of her mantra's is that the pounds aren't what matters. Muscle apparently weighs more than fat does. Maybe you should measure yourself instead of weighing yourself. That way you can see if your slimming the areas you want to - even though you're gaining on the scale. (As it sounds like might be the case since you are lifting now.)

Where the hell did you find a Gym Membership for $10/month?!?!?!

    Love you.

  3. Oh oh I hear you on the I work out and gaining weight thing. So frustrating. I swear I lose more weight when I just sit on the couch--or so it seems. But I keep telling myself "muscle weighs more than fat" so it's a good thing... at least something is shaping up.

    Love you tons!
