Ready or Not, I'm doing it!

I've wanted to start a book club all year long. My Grandma Veda took me up on it and we read "Red Badge of Courage." We got together at her condo clubhouse and ate dinner and watched the old movie for the younger kids. Then we couldn't really decide on another book and so I read Treasure Island and then Grandma and Grandpa headed on down to Panguitch.

I've decided I'm going to read "Saturday" by Ian McEwan. Anyone who wants to read it with me, YEAH!!!!!!!! I know nothing about the book or the author, although he is a familiar name to me. The book caught my eye when I was looking at 1001 books to read before you die. It is about one day, February 15, 2003, a couple years after the attacks on the Twin Towers. Henry Perowne seems to have the perfect job and the perfect family, but he worries about the war in Iraq that is about to begin. Anyway, click here to read more about what the book is about.

If you want to read it with me write me a comment to let me know!

Go here to read an excerpt from the first chapter.

  1. Adrienne! I know I didn't respond to your "let's start a book club" request. But I do. Definitely. However, I am putting a ban on any Ian McEwan books. I don't know about that one specifically (and it may be the only one of his that is different) but all of the other books I've either read or heard of that were written by him are AWFUL. They all have an undercurrent of some perverted sexual theme. It's creepy. Unless this one is completely different ... and you've read that it's different ... I'd steer clear of his books.

Mom is reading a really good book right now that I want to read.

Maybe we could catch up to her?

Sorry to burst your bubble about that book ... and by all means read it if you want to. I just want to give you a heads up.

    Love you!

  2. AD! I love the new blog, and the music website looks SO great! Ian McEwan also wrote "Atonement," and that is one of my favorite books, although it is very heavy. I haven't read "Saturday," but I like his style so maybe I'll join you.

Eclipse opens next Wednesday, are we goin? :)
