Weekend Adventures

Kevin, Ty and Scott eating BBQ at the Utah State Fair
We went to the Utah State Fair Friday night with Ty and Melanie and their kids.  None of us really knew what to expect, but we weren't disappointed.  We saw a life-size butter sculpture and two frisky sea lions.  We watched the last half hour of the rodeo and saw barrel racing and the bull riders.  Did you know they could possibly make $10,000 per fair?  We ran into Dave Sparks and his new wife by the gigantic yellow slide.  They gave us tickets to ride down!  We walked a circle around the entire fair to find the best BBQ and the boys ate a full slab of ribs and Mel and I both had a pulled pork sandwich.  Yum!  Scott's guitar teachers' band, Cheatwood, will be playing at the State Fair next Saturday at 1:30pm.  We might go again just to hear them play!!

Devil's Slide
Yesterday, Patriot Day.  We went fishing up by Croyden, UT with Craig and Ty and Melanie and their kids.  Ty watched all three kids plus 12 year old neighbor, Madi, so that Melanie and I could go on a bike ride.  We left them and took the bikes to ride up a random road.  It said it was going to Lost Creek Dam and so we just rode and rode.  A few miles in I noticed Melanie wasn't behind me and so I turned around and went back to find that she had gotten a flat tire.  We turned around and went back to the truck and then back to the group and found Ty with all four kids half way up Devil's Slide.  Go here to get a better idea of what it is.  Mel and I took the kids to a grassy spot and we did some more exercising and ate Cheetoh's and Pringles and Wheat Thins and just talked and played while the guys fished.

Craig posing with his 17" Brown Trout
The fishing for the boys didn't go so well until the last five casts.  Craig cast into a particularly shady hole around 5pm and scored with this 17" Brown.  He was quite pleased with himself if you can't tell from the picture.  It ended up being such a pleasantly, gorgeous, random, fun day spent with wonderful family and friends.
