King's Peak

This last week has been busy.  We completed our first year of teaching at Bravo Arts Academy and the next day went on a 35 mile backpacking trip to the highest peak in Utah.  King's Peak.  Roughly 13,000 feet high.

We had 10 people in our group.  Sue and I were the only girls.  It rained on us the first day.
This was the only fish caught on the entire trip.  Ty caught it out of a little river.  Scott's pole was broken and he didn't have any luck this time around.  Did I mention it rained on us?
We woke up very early to ascend the actual peak.  The basin we were camping in was beautiful!
Scott thinks I look like Moses.
This is the bottom of King's Peak.  Doesn't it look intimidating?  We pretty much climbed straight up along the right ridge in all those loose rocks.  Sue didn't even think twice.  I took about two steps, stopped and took a break, then told myself to take two more.  Some backpacking website rated this hike as 7 out of 10 in difficulty for the country!
This is the peak and our group.  From left to right:  Mark, Dean Barney, Scott, Ty, Tyler, Carson, Dean Foust, Landon Foust and Keith Stratford and me in front.
Here is Scott and I.  This gives you a better view!  Pretty high up, but gorgeous.

The descent was probably the most difficult for me.  My thighs, knees and feet are so sore.  I burnt my shoe by the fire the night before and so my toes were squished during the entire climb and are very sore with blisters.  We climbed down a different way than we climbed up, but I don't have pictures that do it justice.  Just think of the most difficult black diamond ski run you have ever done and eliminate the snow.  Probably the most difficult hike I have ever been on, but fun as always!
