4-Wheel Drive

On Sunday we went for a Sunday drive up through Grand Teton National Park. As you can see from the picture, it was a gorgeous evening. We went with our bosses, Randy and Mysti, and their 6 month old twins, Abi and Bailey. Randy drove his jeep with the top off and Scottie rode with him; Mysti and I were stuck in the Ford Focus with the twins. On the way up it rained a little and the babies slept peacefully. We went "4 wheel driving" on a dirt road called Grassy Lake Road. It is another way through the Tetons besides the Pass.

It reminded me of my childhood days when my Dad would "go a different way" to get to our destination just so he could drive his Land Cruiser on scary dirt roads. He was always looking for an adventure. He wanted to get the Land Cruiser stuck or he just wanted to find a "quicker" way to our campsite or hike, wherever we were going. We soon learned that when we went camping it always took twice as long to get there because of these off road adventures. We brought books (I remember Little House on the Prairie) and we made beds in the back. I don't know how three of us fit back there, but we did. (I don't remember Kaylee riding in the back with us...I'm sure she was alive!) I also remember Danny always climbing all over us and especially wanting to get up in the front seat with Dad as much as he could. Dad would let us steer all the time! Good memories. Long tangent.

Anyway, we made it to Grassy Lake Resevoir and barbequed ribs, corn and potates and had strawberry shortcake for dessert. It was a fun Sunday get-away. Much needed. Really remote and absolutely gorgeous. The picture was taken with the macro setting on accident so it's kind of blurry, but it was a really pretty place to spend a Sunday Afternoon.

On the way home the babies screamed the entire way and I got carsick from turning around backwards and trying to help the stop. I sympathize with all the moms out there!! I finally gave up and let them scream. When we rolled into Jackson, they stopped.

  1. I want to go to the lake....and I want to go in the 4 wheel drive jeep another way! Most of all, we would have loved ot have been with you.

  2. Love the beard, Scott! Reminds me of Grizzly Adams. Your story about the crying twins reminds me of Natalie's post about Andrew screaming all the way home from Twin Falls. Adrienne had a great solution when she was little and hated being in her car seat. She just reached over with her mouth and grabbed her bottle out of the diaper bag!! It sounds like you two are having a "trial run" with babies this summer. When you get tired and frustrated, you can just give them back! I love and miss you guys. Our Sundays are always waaaayyyy boring. -- Mom
